Hi, I’m Nailah. I’m trained as a veterinary epidemiologist and my day job has been in that realm since about 2017. Like many people, I began my remote work journey in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in the US.
Once we went remote, I immediately noticed a shift in my level of energy. I went from feeling depleted by the end of each day to feeling energized and able to fully engage in my life outside of work. Once I understood that feeling, there was no going back and I’ve pursued remote roles ever since.
As my remote career progressed, I became increasingly interested in how to work more effectively as a distributed team. Even though being remote worked well for my personality and lifestyle, I started to notice that the way we were working was getting in the way of the actual work. We went remote, but we were trying to hang on to the ways we had always worked in person.
My unofficial side hustle became learning about better ways of working together as a remote team (and subjecting my coworkers to my findings). I researched how other companies that had been fully remote prior to the pandemic work together. I also became interested in the research about how working less (think, the 4 day work week) leads to better outcomes for people and companies. Between that, and reading about the mind-body connection and emotional regulation, I began to form the foundations of remote work for humans. Now, I want to share what I’ve learned to help others cultivate remote work practices that support their deepest, most creative work.
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog. I hope that this space provides the information and inspiration to craft a more intentional remote work practice.
